Daltons build on past successes to increase their profile as a leading UK service provider.
The Royal Navy are not the only ones to recognise Daltons’ credentials in the service and aftercare sector. No strangers to public authority work, Daltons’ engineers are equally at home on the decks of an aircraft carrier like the HMS Ark Royal or supporting British Army bases both in the UK and overseas, flying to the Falkland Islands, working in schools and colleges, hospitals and even top security prisons.

A sound base on which to build a service business but under the direction
of director Cliff Sharp and Andy Walsh, the company have recently set their
sights on expanding service activities within the commercial sector. Daltons
already have many contracts with small or medium size companies within the
joinery and timber industries but have recently acquired major contracts
with several national timber suppliers who recognise the skills, experience
and general ‘know how’ brought to the job by the company’s
expanding team of service engineers.
Engineers all equipped with Daltons vans bearing the company logo travel all over the UK from bases in the midlands, in the north of England and Scotland. Accordingly Daltons are able to handle regular maintenance contracts anywhere within the UK and Ireland and of course also deal with breakdowns and upgrades whenever these may be required.
Daltons engineering support team provide the expertise required when installing or servicing Kuper Planer/Moulders…part of a wide range of technical equipment for which the Nottingham based company are exclusive UK distributors.
Cliff Sharp commented “Our engineers will more or less ‘go anywhere
and do anything’. Some of them are qualified to carry out operator
training in addition to their service work. We have qualified electricians,
a CNC engineer and experience in moving machines and systems either within
factories or from one base to another.”
Long established Tyneside timber specialists M H Southern & Company Ltd are just one of many companies who rely on the Dalton’s service team to keep their equipment running smoothly. Mill Manager Mick Anderson commented “Daltons provide us with machine supply and installation, they have the ability and equipment to handle machine movements when required and we have come to rely on their service team to keep our moulding and sawing lines running smoothly.”
Norwich based timber importers and suppliers A & W Cushion Ltd are another enthusiastic Daltons customer. Numerous woodworking machines including Planer/ Moulders, Resaws, etc, have been supplied, delivered and installed by Daltons in recent years and director Chris Hammond was quick to acknowledge the support provided by the Nottingham based company “We very much value the co-operation and assistance received from Daltons over a long period, they are always quick to respond to our needs and their engineers make a significant contribution to the day to day operation of our mills.”
Daltons are keen to highlight all aspects of their ‘5-Star’ approach which in addition to service as outlined above also incorporates operator training, machine distribution, engineering services, machine movement, transport and tooling.
Nigel Dalton commented that each of the company’s individual strengths complement each other, ie sales personnel pick up enquiries for training, service and tooling and service engineers inevitably come across sales opportunities in the course of their travels. Everyone needs transport at some time or other so Steve Bath and his ‘big blue lorry’ are rarely off the road!”
