Problems in the Borders for Alexandra but Daltons provide all UK Response

Following hard on the heels of successful sales initiatives in Northumberland and Tyne and Wear, Daltons latest sortie to the north of England targeted the border city of Carlisle in response to an invitation from long established timber merchants and sawmillers Alexandra Sawmills. The Daltons team, led by directors Andy Walsh and Steve Balchin, were quickly on the scene after receiving a request from Alexandra for assistance in re-organising and re-equipping a sawmill only then emerging from devastating floods.

Subsequent flying visits by Andy Walsh and discussions with General Manager Caroline McLeod and Sales Manager Peter Mulholland enabled a list of priorities to be established with particular regard to the company’s requirement to combine prompt availability with their wish to purchase machinery of the highest quality. As main distributors for Stenner Band Resaws and the renowned range of Wadkin Planer/Moulders, Grinders and Classical Machines, Daltons were in an ideal position to meet the criteria.

The Nottingham based suppliers were able to provide new Stenner ST100 and 130 Resaws, Wadkin BRA Radial Arm Crosscut and a fully rebuilt Wadkin GS220 5-Head Moulder from a stock situation which enabled Alexandra to get back into production at the

earliest time. These were followed by a new Wadkin HT Delta High Speed 6-Head Moulder with heavy duty feed works, a Wadkin Visage Profile Grinder and a Wadkin Planer/Thicknesser, all contributing to what is in effect a completely new machine shop equipped with UK built high quality machinery and (now the debris has been cleared) set out and maintained to a standard which few competitors would be likely to achieve. All the machines were installed and commissioned by Dalton engineers directed and supported by “Team Leader” Steve Balchin. Tooling Manager Wayne Ellis also made the long trip up the M6 to discuss tooling requirements and ensure that all machines were correctly equipped for their production needs. Having suffered the inconvenience and trauma of the floods and notwithstanding that even now they cannot yet re-occupy their offices (they are having to manage with portakabins) Caroline McLeod now looks confidently to the future.

She says “We now have a state of the art mill, the company is already 175 years old and with the assistance and goodwill of sub-contractors and suppliers like Daltons and the support of our customers things can only get better”. Peter Mulholland is equally up-beat and proud of his immaculate machine shop, embracing as it does the latest technology and best available build quality. His only additional requirement is for Daltons to continue to provide the engineering support and back-up service necessary to ensure ultimate performance from the equipment. This Daltons are more than happy to do and look forward to working with Alexandra Sawmills for many years to come.
